| SRPB43 | 40.5 mm steel, blue sunburst dial, 4R35 | $450 |
Which one I'd pick
New vs pre-owned: at $450 new from Seiko, pre-owned only makes sense if it's mint and well under $400.
What to check before you buy
- Crystal: the box-shaped Hardlex crystal is part of the look but can scratch. Check it under light.
- Water resistance: 5 bar. Fine for rain and hand-washing, not for swimming.
- Ref check: Cocktail Time comes in many dial colours. Match the ref (SRPB43) before buying.
Alternatives worth a look
- Grand Seiko Heritage Collection 'Snowflake': Where the textured-dial idea goes at the top end. (41 mm high-intensity titanium, Calibre 9R65 Spring Drive, retail $6,900)
- Tissot PRX Powermatic 80: Swiss automatic with an 80-hour reserve, below retail. (40 mm stainless steel, Powermatic 80, retail $850 (40 mm))
- Hamilton Khaki Field Mechanical: Another under-$700 mechanical classic. (38 mm stainless steel, Calibre H-50, retail $675 (38 mm))
History
Cocktail Time began in 2010 as a Japan-only collaboration with Shinobu Ishigaki, founder of Bar Ishinohana in Shibuya, Tokyo, whose cocktails inspired the dials.
The series later became part of Seiko's Presage line.
The SRPB43 has a blue sunburst dial, a 40.5 mm case and Seiko's 4R35 automatic with about 41 hours of power reserve.
