History

Grand Seiko started in 1960. It has been sold internationally since 2010, and in 2017 Seiko began presenting it as a separate brand, removing the Seiko name from new Grand Seiko dials.

The 'Snowflake' dial first appeared in October 2005 on the SBGA011. Grand Seiko says the pattern is inspired by wind-carved snow on the Hotaka mountains, visible from the Shinshu Watch Studio where Spring Drive watches are made.

The SBGA211 uses the Spring Drive Caliber 9R65 with about 72 hours of power reserve. The case and bracelet are high-intensity titanium, which Grand Seiko says is about 30% lighter than steel.

FAQ

How much is a Grand Seiko Snowflake?

Grand Seiko's US site lists the SBGA211 at $6,900 (checked Oct 19, 2026). It was $5,520 new at Jomashop, and pre-owned asking prices on Chrono24 mostly ran about $5,050 to $6,800.

Is the Snowflake titanium?

Yes. The case and bracelet are high-intensity titanium, about 30% lighter than stainless steel, per Grand Seiko.

Why is it called Snowflake?

The dial texture is inspired by snow on the Hotaka mountains near the Shinshu Watch Studio, where Spring Drive watches are made.
