from about $8,900 pre-owned street range
124300 (previous ref) (median ~$10,250)
No credible new discount: new Rolex watches are available only through Official Rolex Jewelers. Chrono24's '124300' search also pulled in other models, so I only show the low end (10th percentile) and the median, not a top of range. Jomashop listed a new 124300 at $9,450 and a new 134300-0001 at $10,550 ($9,950 with a coupon).

Which one I'd pick
134300 vs 124300: the new 134300 is the one to get at retail if an Official Rolex Jeweler has one. The 124300 is the same idea on the pre-owned market, but on today's numbers it isn't cheaper than a new 134300 at retail.
Dial colour: colourful dials are the fun part but usually cost more pre-owned. Black, blue and silver are the safe, easy-to-resell choices.
What to check before you buy
- Box and papers: a Rolex warranty card that matches the serial on the watch is the single biggest resale factor.
- Service history: ask when and where it was last serviced. A Rolex service record helps resale.
- Ref check: listings mix 124300 and 134300, and the Chrono24 search pulls in other models. Confirm the ref, dial code and year before comparing prices.
Alternatives worth a look
- Rolex Explorer (36 mm): Rolex's other simple three-hander, 36 mm with a 3-6-9 dial. (36 mm Oystersteel, Calibre 3230, retail $7,900 (124270))
- Tudor Black Bay 41: 41 mm Tudor with a Master Chronometer movement, below retail. (41 mm stainless steel, Calibre MT5602-U, retail $5,325 (M7941A1A0RU-0001))
- Tissot PRX Powermatic 80: Integrated-bracelet three-hander at a tiny fraction of the price. (40 mm stainless steel, Powermatic 80, retail $850 (40 mm))
History
The Oyster Perpetual traces back to the Rolex Oyster, the waterproof case Rolex introduced in 1926, named after an oyster to highlight its water resistance.
In 1931 Rolex introduced the Oyster Perpetual with a self-winding movement using a 'Perpetual' rotor, and the Oyster Perpetual name still appears across the Rolex line.
In 2025 Rolex replaced the 41 mm ref. 124300 with the 134300, keeping the 41 mm Oystersteel case, 100 m water resistance and Calibre 3230 with a 70-hour power reserve, and adding a larger Twinlock crown.
Rolex sponsored swimmer Mercedes Gleitze, the first British woman to swim the English Channel, as one of its early ambassadors.
