Buying guide
Key references

Which one I'd pick
Sea-Dweller vs Submariner: the Sea-Dweller is bigger (43 mm), deeper-rated and has the helium valve. On today's numbers it's also easier to buy pre-owned near retail than a Submariner.
What to check before you buy
- Box and papers: a Rolex warranty card that matches the serial on the watch is the single biggest resale factor.
- Service history: ask when and where it was last serviced. A Rolex service record helps resale.
- Bezel and valve: check the Cerachrom insert for chips and ask about the last pressure test, especially on a watch that's been dived.
Alternatives worth a look
- Rolex Submariner: The smaller, more famous Rolex diver. (41 mm Oystersteel, Calibre 3230 (no-date) / 3235 (date), retail $10,050 (124060); $11,350 (126610LN))
- Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M: Omega's 600 m diver, below retail grey-market. (43.5 mm stainless steel, Calibre 8900, retail Discontinued ref.; current Planet Ocean models $8,600–$9,200 on Omega US)
- Tudor Pelagos 39: Titanium tool diver from Rolex's sister brand. (39 mm titanium, Calibre MT5400, retail $5,625 (25407N))
History
Rolex launched the Sea-Dweller to the public in 1967 with a depth rating of 610 m and a gas escape valve, developed for saturation diving, that lets helium out of the case during decompression.
Later the 16660 'Triple-Six' raised the rating to 1,220 m. The Sea-Dweller has been standard issue for Comex divers since 1977.
Until the ref. 126600 arrived in 2017, Sea-Dwellers had no Cyclops lens over the date. The current 43 mm model added one.

FAQ
How much is a Rolex Sea-Dweller?
Rolex US retail for the 126600-0002 is $14,550 (checked Oct 19, 2026). On Chrono24, the middle of the market was asking about $11,900 to $16,000, with a median of about $13,700.
What's the difference between the Sea-Dweller and the Submariner?
The Sea-Dweller is 43 mm, rated to 1,220 m and has a helium escape valve for saturation diving. The Submariner is 41 mm and rated to 300 m.
Does the Sea-Dweller have a Cyclops?
The current 126600 does. Sea-Dwellers before the 126600 (2017) didn't have one.

In saturation diving, helium gets into the watch. The valve lets it escape during decompression so the crystal doesn't pop off.
