History

Louis Cartier created the Tank in 1917, inspired by the new Renault tanks he saw on the Western Front.

The Tank was introduced in 1918 and entered full production in 1919, when six pieces were made. Its lines and proportions echo the tanks of First World War battlefields, with the strap integrated into vertical sidebars called brancards.

The Tank Must is the entry point to the line today. The large WSTA0041 used a high-autonomy quartz movement on a leather strap; Cartier US now lists the large model on a steel bracelet instead.

Fun fact

The design dates to 1917, but it went on sale in 1919.
